It’s been raining outside for the last three days and I haven’t been feeling particularly well this weekend, and what’s better than curling up with a book in a situation like that? Not much, I’d say!
For the past couple of days I’ve been reading A Dry White Season by André Brink. The story takes place in South Africa, during the awful times of the apartheid regime. I’ve never read a novel about the apartheid before, and I think this book is a great first “apartheid novel”. It’s very well written, and the injustice and feeling of being unable to do anything comes across startlingly well. I get angry just reading it. I’m almost half way through now, and once I’ve finished a review will follow, of course. Fun fact: because the author himself is South African, quite a few terms and words from the Afrikaans language are mentioned, which is interesting and fun for me, as a Dutch person.
Another thing I want to talk about briefly is social media, and my use of them. Yes, this is partly shameless self-promoting, but there’s more to it than that! I really like this blogging community, and I’d also like to connect with you guys more, so that’s why I’m giving some special attention to my different social media accounts.
Facebook – Books Baking and Blogging has been on Facebook for a while now. I mostly set it up as a place for my non-blogger friends to follow my blog. I mainly just post my new blog posts there. However, if you’d like to contact me personally, you can send me a message on there.
Goodreads – I love Goodreads! I like seeing what other people are reading, so please don’t be shy to befriend me on there!
Instagram – This is the one I’m most excited about. I’ve only set up my Instagram yesterday, so there’s not much on there yet, but I’m planning on using it a lot! Mainly for baked goodies and pretty things that I won’t post on my blog itself.
Tumblr – I use Tumblr to post my new blog posts to, but I also reblog all kinds of pretty or funny things I come across. It’s a bit of everything, really.
I also set up a Twitter account yesterday, but I’m having a few problems with it (the confirmation email still hasn’t arrived) so I’m not linking to that one, yet!
Hope to see you guys on one of these platforms!
There is one last thing I’d like to get your feedback on (I’m almost done, I promise). Books Baking and Blogging has been going for eight months now, and last week it hit 200 followers (which I’m really grateful for – thank you all!). I figured this this is a good time to get your opinion on the set up of my blog. Do you think this is a clear and suitable lay out for my type of blog? I’m quite content with how everything looks, but I’m also thinking about changing it around a bit since there are a few things I don’t like that much. That’s why I’d appreciate ideas and tips! Thank you!
