10 Books I Want to Read in 2019

tbr 2019

I’ve seen a lot of people make lists of their most anticipated books coming out in 2019. I love seeing people all excited about new books! Some of them have me doing a happy dance as well (On the Come Up, anyone?), but I have to admit I’m not very up to speed on what books are coming out when. I’m still trying to get to books that came out in 2017 (and way before that).

In other words: I tend to be more of a backlist reader (backlist = books that haven’t come out recently). That doesn’t mean that I’m not excited about (finally) getting to read some of the books on my shelves, though, so I figured I’d share with you the ten books I’m most excited about reading in 2019.

Let me tell you; it was hard to keep it to just ten! There are easily twenty books on my shelves I would love to be reading right now. I also kind of told myself I need to read more of the books that are already on my shelves before I can go out and buy a ton of new ones. There are a couple exceptions, of course. Some books you just have to get, ya know? There’s no way I’m instating another book buying ban – that’s no fun!

Anyhow, let’s get to my list!

Festive Fortnight [5]: A Very Merry Potter Post

Some of you might be wondering: “what does Harry Potter have to do with Christmas?” Well, let me explain! Not all that much, really. Yet, for some reason, the Harry Potter films have become a part of Christmas for a whole lot of people around the world.

Perhaps it’s the cosiness of the earlier films, or the Christmas celebrations within them. I don’t know. All I know is that I wanted to do a Harry Potter post during this Festive Fortnight, because I love Harry Potter and I’ll take any excuse to talk about it.

Some time last year, I made a post in which I ranked the Harry Potter books. It was horrible and difficult, but also kind of fun! So, I decided to do the same for the films. The ranking is different from my ranking of the books, but there are definitely similarities, mostly at the top and the bottom. I just want to say as a kind of disclaimer before we start that I love all of these films a lot and that this ranking might change the next time I see any one of them. Although the top two and the last one are pretty much fixed.

Also, I did my best to be vague, but there might be a few spoilers here and there. Just thought I’d mention that

Anyway, here’s my ranking of all eight of the Harry Potter films!

The Book Cake Tag

It’s been ages since I did a book tag, but a while back Morgan from The Bookish Beagle tagged me to do the Book Cake tag. Books, cake… seems like the perfect tag for me, doesn’t it?

So, we’re going to build a book cake! We’ve got a couple of ingredients (flour, butter, eggs, icing, sprinkles and the cherry on top), and they’re all linked to prompts, which will be the basis for my book picks. You know, your basic book tag – it doesn’t really need any explanation.

Let’s get to it!

Things I Want To Do This Summer

A few weeks ago, my three month summer vacation started and since then I’ve been doing very little of anything. I caught up on some TV shows and hung out with my friends, but I haven’t really done many of the things I planned on doing this summer. Three months is long, and I just figure “ah, I can do that later”, but it’s turning into a bit of a thing in my mind. I’m starting to resent the doing nothing, which has somehow led to doing even less. I haven’t posted a blogpost in over a week, for instance. What’s that about?

I know, I know, first world problems. You’re all probably resenting me for complaining about a three month vacation, and to be fair, you should. This post is pretty whiny so far.

So let’s change that!

Instead of whining, I’m going to make a list of things I want to do in these coming two months so that I can refer back to it and actually start doing things instead of thinking about doing things and watching YouTube videos in the meantime. Time to get off my ass and start being productive (while also having fun), yay!

Ranking the Harry Potter Books (AKA the Hardest Thing I’ve Ever Done)

Ranking the HP books

A while ago, Beth from The Quiet People did a post on her definitive ranking of the seven Harry Potter books, and I enjoyed reading about her choices so much that I decided to do my own post about it. I’ve never attempted to rank the books before, so this ought to be fun. Or, you know, the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life. One of those two.

Spoiler alert: If you haven’t read the Harry Potter books, first of all: HOW? and secondly: this post contains spoilers. Seriously, if you haven’t read (all) the books and do still want to: DON’T read this post.

Top Ten Songs I Wish Were Books

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I haven’t participated in a top ten tuesday for a while, but when I saw this week’s prompt I was like oh hell yeah – let’s do this! Combining books with music? Right up my alley! It was pretty hard to think of some good songs I think should be turned into books, though, and I basically ended up with a list of some of my favourite songs (plus a few others) since those were the only ones I could think of. Of course, they are also the songs whose stories I know best – and I really would like to see these songs made into books!

So, here’s my list…

My Top Ten Favourite Quotes From Books

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I love this week’s topic! Bookish quotes are best and I’m so glad Goodreads has that awesome “quotes” function. Makes looking for them quite a lot easier! Compiling an actual “top ten” was pretty much impossible for me, though, because I think an amazing book is often just a compilation of some very good quotes. So, I just browsed through my shelves on Goodreads, looking for quotable books that I thought deserved a spot in this top ten. And here it is! As always, these are in no particular order.

Top Ten Books from My Childhood/Teen Years I’d Like to Revisit

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s topic is books from my childhood or teen years I’d like to revisit. I’m a big fan of nostalgia and reminiscing about those good ol’ days, so I’m definitely game for this week’s top ten! I had tons of fun thinking about the books I used to love and reread all the time when I was young. The last four books on the list are from when I was a teenager, and I’m not completely sure when I read Kruistocht in Spijkerbroek (Crusade in Jeans), and if it is considered a book for children or for young teenagers — it’s been a while.

Anyway, let’s get on to this fun list! Anyone who’s been following my blog for a while can probably guess what book is on the top of my list… (although, technically, these are in no particular order).

Top Ten Books On My Spring TBR List

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s topic is the top ten books on my Spring to be read list. I probably won’t get to all of these in Spring, but I’m going to try my best! Most of these have been waiting on my shelves for quite a while, so it’s about time I read them. As always, these are in no particular order.

Top Ten Favourite Books From The Past 3 Years

toptentuesday Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Wow, look at me doing two top ten Tuesdays in a row! This week’s topic is your top ten favourite books from the past 3 years. That’s definitely a topic I can work with, although you will have seen most (if not all) of the books on this list in some of my previous top tens. I only started really keeping track of what I read at the end of 2013, so there weren’t all that many books to choose from.

Also, just to clarify: these aren’t necessarily books that were published in the last 3 years, but books I read (for the first time) in the last 3 years.

Anyway, here’s my top ten, as always in no particular order. Continue reading
