250 Followers! The Book Blogger Test

A few days ago Books Baking and Blogging reached the milestone of 250 followers! On top of that, the Facebook page for my blog reached 50 likes about a day later. I am having so much fun with this blog since I started it in October last year, and I’m really happy and grateful that so many people like to read my stuff. Thank you, everyone! You guys are the best!

I thought this would be a nice moment to do some sort of question and answer tag type of thing, and then I found The Book Blogger Test, over here. That blog isn’t actually active anymore, but I thought I’d link to it anyway.

So, let’s answer these questions!

The Book Blogger Test

1. What are your top three book pet hates

This was a difficult one because I don’t have that many book pet hates (anymore). But here are three I can think of:

– When I see people mistreating my books, like cracking the spine. I don’t care what you do with your own books, but show some respect to mine, please!

– Dog ears in books. I’ve become a lot more mellow when it comes to keeping books pristine, but I still can’t get over dog ears. Plus, I love bookmarks.

– When I order books from an online shop, and they are (slightly) damaged when I open the box. That happens a bit too often for my liking. Figure out a way to ship them well!

2. Describe your perfect reading spot

My couch. It’s big, super comfy and you can just sink in it and never want to get back up again. The other day a friend of mine described it as quicksand. I also like reading sitting up in my bed, but only when it’s warm, because otherwise the top half of my body will get cold!

3. Tell us three book confessions

Another difficult one! I don’t really have that much to confess, I think, but here we go:

– I’ve never read The Lord of the Rings (still want to, though)

– I really liked the Twilight series when I was in high school. Haven’t read it since I was sixteen, though, and I’m not planning to either.

– I’m not a really fast reader. I get distracted easily and my eyes get tired very quickly. When other bloggers say “this book can easily be read in a few hours” I’m always kind of amazed, because I couldn’t do that. With most books anyway.

4. When was the last time you cried at a book?

I honestly can’t remember because I don’t really cry at books. I didn’t even cry when reading The Fault in Our Stars. Ooh, that would’ve been a good confession as well. I’m not even really sure if I’ve ever cried at a book, but I seem to vaguely recall crying at a Dutch children’s novel about a girl with leukemia (for the Dutch readers: Achtste groepers huilen niet) when I was, what, 10?

5. How many books are on your bedside table?

There’s only one book at my bedside table at the time; the one I’m reading. And it isn’t even there right now, because I take it with me when I get up out of bed. I’ve got a really tiny bedside table that just barely fits one book, my glasses and my alarm clock.

6. What is your favourite snack whilst you’re reading?

I don’t really snack while I’m reading, actually. It distracts me if I have to reach into a bag of crisps or have to balance a plate on my legs or something. I do like a nice cup of tea when I’m reading, though.

7. Name three books you’d recommend to anyone

The Harry Potter series, The Fault in Our Stars and Wuthering Heights. What a surprise! It’s my three favourite books.

8. Show us a picture of your favourite bookshelf on your bookcase

My collection of Harry Potter novels! On the left you see the English ones, and on the right the Dutch ones

9. Write how much books mean to you in just three words

Books inspire creativity.

10. What is your biggest reading secret?

I honestly don’t have a reading secret. For a while it was the fact that I liked Twilight in high school, which I was especially ashamed of when I started my major in English. I’ve come clean about that, though, so I really don’t know!

And that’s it! I’m not going to tag anyone specifically, since I know some people don’t like to be tagged so: I tag everyone who wants to be tagged! I hope some of you will answer these questions, because I always like to see people’s answers to these kinds of questions.

  1. Congratulations on hitting 250! I laughed when I read your answer to question #2. So many people say they love to read in bed, but I agree with you, the upper part of my body gets cold! And wearing all my clothes to bed so that I don’t get cold isn’t comfy either. I prefer a comfy chair or couch. Also, we’re the opposite for question #4. Almost every book makes me cry at some point. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Naomi! Haha, exactly! I just don’t really get why people find reading in bed so comfortable! I’m not really sure why I don’t cry at books, because I do tend to cry at sad or emotional moments in films or series (only when I’m alone though). Perhaps it’s the visual aspect. Books do get me emotional, though, just without the tears.

    1. Thank you! I am the same. I try to use an actual bookmark, but if I can’t find one within a few seconds I’ll go for the supermarket receipts and other pieces of paper, haha!

  2. It’s nice to see someone else who loves Wuthering Heights! Whenever I tell someone about it I say, ‘Everyone dies and everyone is evil. It’s my favorite.’ I’m, glad I’m not the only one who likes it.
    Anyway, loved the post!

    1. Haha, that’s a pretty accurate summary! I love it, even though I end up feeling like I’m dying inside after I’ve read it. It’s my favourite book! Thanks, I’m glad you loved it 🙂
