Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
It’s been four months since I last did a Top Ten Tuesday, so it’s about time I did one again! This week’s prompt is Top Ten Book To Movie Adaptations I’m Looking Forward To or Ten Book To Movie Adaptations I Still Need To Watch, and there are so many films I still need to watch, so this seemed like the perfect prompt to ease back into Top Ten Tuesday.
So, let’s go!
1. Mockingjay Part 1: Part 2 is coming out next week, but I still haven’t watched the first one… I’m pretty sure that’ll change soon, though, because I really want to see part 2 in the cinema! I watched The Hunger Games and Catching Fire for the first time earlier this year and really loved them, so I’m really excited to see Mockingjay. No idea why I waited this long.
2. The Book Thief: The book by Markus Zusak is one of my all time favourites, yet I still haven’t seen the film. Perhaps it’s actually because of that. Somehow I have the feeling it could only disappoint, you know? I would really like to see it some day, though, so maybe I will soon.
3. If I Stay: I read the book back in May, but haven’t really felt like actually watching the film yet. I think it’s because I don’t really feel like crying my eyes out on a regular basis, which I’m pretty sure will happen when I see this film.
4. Gone Girl: Making this list just reminded me of how much I want to see this one! I remember people raving about it when it came out, and although the shock factor will probably be kind of lost on me since I’ve already read the book, I expect I’ll love this film anyway.
5: The Golden Compass: I read the book by Philip Pullman a few weeks ago and really liked it! It’ll be really interesting to see how they decided to display certain fantasy elements of the book, so I think I’ll be seeing the film soon! Oh, and read the rest of the series, because I’m intrigued…
6: Jane Eyre: I just realised I haven’t seen any of the adaptations of Jane Eyre, and I love the story! What do you think is the best adaptation of this book? Let me know!
7: My Sister’s Keeper: I read the book last year and it absolutely crushed me, so I am a little apprehensive about seeing this film, but I do think it’s really good. Maybe I’ll watch it straight after I’ve watched If I Stay. Not sure if I’d survive that, though…
8: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: I don’t think that I’ve seen either of the two adaptations of this novel, which is kind of ridiculous because I loved the book.
9: The Casual Vacancy: This isn’t technically a film, but it is an adaptation. I watched the first episode of the BBC mini-series, but I guess I sort of forgot about it after that and didn’t watch the other two. I did really enjoy that first episode, though, and I loved the book, so this is going on my “must watch SOON” list.
10: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: I’ve heard the film is kind of whacky, and I’ve gotten curious! I’ve only read the first book of this series, but I do own the rest and have been wanting to read it for a long time. The humour is amazing, and I’d love to see how it all translates to the big screen.
Did you watch any of these films? Were they any good or do you think I shouldn’t waste my time? Let me know!
Mockingjay part 1 was amazing, one of the few movies I found better than the book. I wasn’t a fan of the if I stay movie, too much romance!!
Wow, better than the book even? Mockingjay was my favourite book of the trilogy, so I’m really looking forward to seeing those films!
Yeah! I just saw the movie for the second part and it was quite good as well!
I’m in the same boat as you with Mockingjay Part One…I need to get on that ASAP before the new one comes out! 😀
I still haven’t watched it! Have you seen it by now? 🙂 I’m probably going to see it this week, and then go see part 2 in the cinema!
I still haven’t haha! It’s been sitting on Netflix waiting for me to watch it but I still haven’t had the chance!
Ohh, I wish it was available on the Dutch Netflix! If so, I would’ve definitely watched it already, haha!
I am pretty sure you saw a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory…
Oh, no, it was Willie Wonka & The Chocolate Factory we saw when you were a little girl.
Yep, but I hardly remember anything about it…
The Book Thief is on my list too but I think I want to reread the book first since it’s been such a long time since I read it for the first time.
It’s always a good time to (re)read The Book Thief! I love that novel so much… 🙂
You have to watch The Book Thief. It’s oh, so good! Happy reading/watching! https://ireadboooks.wordpress.com/2015/11/10/ten-book-to-movie-adaptations-i-want-to-watch/
Thanks for the recommendation! After all these comments saying The Book Thief is so good I’m even more curious! 🙂
Great movies on your list! The Book Thief was soooo good!!!! But, oh my, save yourself from the horror of The Golden Compass. That has to be the worst adaptation I have ever had to watch. I am so excited for the BBC TV show now, I hope someone finally does the book justice. Here’s my TTT.
Thanks! I’m now looking forward to seeing The Book Thief even more! Haha, I’ve heard several people say that about The Golden Compass. Is it a bad thing that I’m even more curious to see it now? xD Ooh, there’s gong to be a BBC version? That’s so cool! Maybe I won’t see the film then. 🙂
There are sooo many versions of Jane Eyre, but my absolute favorite is the 2006 BBC mini-series: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780362/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Those mni-series are always amazing! I hope I’ll be able to watch it soon. 🙂
Nice list this week!! I still need to see The Book Thief!!
Here’s a link to my TTT post for this week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2015/11/top-ten-tuesday-ten-book-to-movie.html
Thank you! I’m so looking forward to seeing it! 🙂
I just finished If I Stay on audio this week, and I also haven’t seen the movie yet. I would love to, but I do agree that it will require Kleenex, lots and lots of Kleenex!
Yes, that will definitely be requirement I’m afraid… That’s going to be a tearjerker for sure!
The Book Thief is a really beautiful film, you definitely need to see it! Not as good as the book obviously, but comes pretty close!
My TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2015/11/10/top-ten-tuesday-30/
I doubt anything can be as good as that book! Thanks for the recommendation, I’ve gotten even more excited to see it now. 🙂
Oh yeah, it could never be anywhere near as good as the book, obviously!
I’d say save yourself the effort of watching the movie adaptation of Golden Compass, the book was WAY better! But definitely watch The Book Thief, the movie was really well done 😀
Thanks for the recommendations! I’m a bit wary of The Golden Compass now, but also curious to see how bad it is, haha!
I’m also a pretty curious person. I’d prolly end up watching a movie everyone tells me it was bad *cough*50shadesofgrey*cough*. I normally regret it…but I had to find out. So yes go forth and enjoy it 😊
I’ll be interested to see what you think of the Gone Girl film. I read the book before the film but would have rather done it other way round. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is great. You a big Dahl fan?
Oh, wow, really? Most people say they wished they’d read the book first! How come you’d rather have it the other way around? I’m curious now! If it’s spoiler-y, you could send me DM on Twitter. 🙂
I love Dahl! I grew up on his stories, especially Matilda, and I think he’s one of the best storytellers there ever was.
