Bookish Would You Rather

We all know the “would you rather”-game, with questions like: would you rather have the hiccups for the rest of your life or always feel like you have to sneeze but not be able to. Most of these questions are impossible to answer, which makes them so much fun.

Recently I came across a Bookish Would You Rather video on YouTube, by my favourite booktuber, Sanne from booksandquills, and I thought it’d be fun to try to answer these questions myself as well. Apparently it’s quite an old tag already, but I hadn’t seen it before. So if anyone’s thinking “oh, not that old thing again!” — sorry!

Anyway, here we go…!

Would you rather…

Read only trilogies or stand alones?

This is quite an easy one! I would only read stand alones. I don’t read many trilogies as it is already, so this wouldn’t be too hard for me. Although I guess only reading stand alones also means I can’t ever read the Harry Potter books again. Or finish the Throne of Glass and Lunar Chronicles series. This is harder than I thought…

Still, I’d have to go for stand alones. It just means I’d have a bigger range of books to choose from.

Read only female or male authors?

Female authors, definitely. Not only are most of the books I adore written by female authors, but us girls got to stick together!

Sorry, John Green. It was fun while it lasted, but you know how these things go.

Shop at bookshops or online?

Okay, so, confession time. I buy the gross majority of my books online… For conveniency’s sake, mostly — they hardly ever have the books I want to read in the bookstores over here. But if I had to choose between actual bookshops disappearing or online bookshops disappearing, I’d choose the latter. I love bookstores! I’m just too lazy to ask them to order the books I want….

All books become movies or t.v. shows?

This is a good one! In her video, Sanne said she’d choose for all books becoming BBC mini series, and I think that would have my preference as well. That way they can get more detail into the adaptation, which is always good.

While I don’t think that’s exactly what is meant with this question I’m just going to ignore that and go with Sanne’s interpretation. BBC mini series it is!

Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

Ideally, I’d read five books per week. Duh. I know that’s nowhere near doable for me, but reading only five pages per week would just be terrible. So, basically, both are impossible. But I’m just going to believe that in a world where I’d have to choose between these two, I’d also be able to read five books per week.

Be a professional reviewer or author?

Author! One hundred percent! That’s been my dream for as long as I can remember, although I don’t talk about it a lot. I did once post a short story I’ve written, which you can read here if you’re interested (that’d be cool)!

Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven’t read before?

Holy cow, this is a difficult one! While it’d be so sad to never be able to reread my favourite books, I’m going to have to choose only reading new ones. I think I’d get bored with the same twenty books over and over again quite soon, and there’s still so much out there I want to read!

Be a librarian or bookseller?

I’d love to be a bookseller! It’d be so cool to have my own bookstore. I’d make it a bookstore/bakery/cafe, though. Yup, that’s the dream…

Only read your favourite genre, or every genre except your favourite?

Hmm, this is actually a very interesting question, especially since I’ve been all about the whole “read outside my comfort zone” thing lately. Still, though, I think I’d have to go for only reading my favourite genre, which would be contemporary. I guess that’s cheating though, because contemporary obviously has a lot of subgenres. I’m just going to ignore that part…

Only read physical books or eBooks?

Well, this is easy, isn’t it! Physical books, for sure! EBooks are really convenient, and it’s nice they exist and all… But I could do without them very well. There’s nothing better than leafing through a physical book — eBooks just don’t have that charm, that personality.

And that’s it! I’m not going to tag anyone in specific, but if you want to do this Bookish Would You Rather as well, consider yourself tagged! Also, I’d love to see some of your answers in the comments! Which answers would you choose?

  1. This is a cool post. 🙂 Huh, I couldn’t decide about reading only male or female authors. I love reading both and I’d say my top ten authors are equally divided between both!
And I’d totally come to your bookshop 😉 It would be great to have something like that, I agree. I love reading books that revolve around such places.

    • It is a tough decision to make, so luckily we probably won’t have to make it for real, haha! Yay, my first customer! 😉 I love books like that as well, they always make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. 🙂

  2. I love this! Some of these questions are deceptively hard. It’s like you read and think you know what you’d choose, but then you think about it a little longer and all of the sudden you’re not so sure anymore haha.
