Ten Blogging Resolutions for 2016

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

It’s the very first Top Ten Tuesday of the year and the topic is your top ten resolutions for 2016. I’m not a huge fan of resolutions when it comes to my personal life, but I do like to set myself some goals when it comes to blogging, so that’s what I chose to do for this one. Here are ten things I want me or my blog to accomplish in 2016!

1. Take notes while reading

writing-badThis summer I bought a little notebook so I could jot down thoughts and feelings about the books I’m reading in an organised manner. I managed to do that for about five books, and then I stopped. Why? No clue. I probably figured it was too much work (I’m a bit lazy, if you hadn’t noticed). That does mean that by the time I get around to writing a review about a book I have trouble thinking of interesting and relevant things to say. I get there eventually, but it takes me much longer than if I’d just used the bloody notebook.

So yeah, want to change that.

2. Upgrade the recipe index

Right now, the recipe index consists of one page that lists all of my recipes under different categories. That worked fine when I first made said index, but that thing is starting to get pretty darn long. So I figured I’d create several sub-pages (or whatever those are called) for the different categories to make things a bit more clear and a bit less cluttered.

That’s been the plan for a while now, I just haven’t gotten round to it yet. But some time in 2016, it’ll happen!

3. Write more discussion posts

My favourite posts by other book bloggers are discussion posts, in which they talk about a bookish issue and their opinion on it. I’ve written a few of them in 2015, but not as many as I wanted to, so that’s something I want to work on in 2016. I always find it difficult to come up with good topics though, so it might be a bit of a challenge, but that’s never hurt anyone!

4. Bake stuff that is out of my comfort zone

Wow, a baking related resolution! That’s a first. Sometimes I forget that this blog also pretends to be a food blog at times and isn’t all about the books.

In 2015 I baked a lot, but most of the things I baked were relatively easy, or at least something I was already quite good at. This year, I want to, first of all, master the macaron (yep, I said it) and also just generally bake more things that might a bit more difficult for me. Also (this just popped into my head), I want to try my hand at baking savory stuff. It’ll be fun!

5. Respond to comments sooner

love getting comments, and I always read them straight away, but somehow I always end up replying to comments that are two weeks old. That’s not going to happen this year! Or at least I’m going to try to not let that happen this year, by responding to comments asap. Because why wait?

6. Proofread my posts!

I’ve lost count of the amount of times one of my parents calls me saying “I love your new post! You do seem to have written it in a hurry, though…” and pointing out a few (often stupid) typos or mistakes. Proofreading is important, yet I hardly ever do it…

7. Write posts in advance

This one was on my list last year as well, and while I managed to write a few posts in advance (like when I went on holiday for two weeks), I think it’s fair to say I didn’t follow through. I tend to leave writing my posts until the last minute, which is what I do with everything in life (mostly deadlines, though). I just have to instate days or afternoons (or whatever) of blog writing, or just write a bunch of posts when I feel like writing.

8. Comment on other people’s blogs more often

I love reading other people’s posts, but I don’t comment all that often. Sometimes I feel like I have nothing to say, and sometimes I just can’t be bothered to formulate a reply (words are hard, man). However, I know how much I love getting comments myself, even if it’s just a short one from someone letting me know they enjoyed my posts. So, I’m going to make an effort to comment more on other blogs.

9. Use Instagram (and Twitter) more often

Instagram is awesome, and I keep thinking I should post more, but I never do because I’m too lazy to take pictures. This year, that’s going to change! I’m going to take lots of cool photos and not worry about whether or not they’re good enough. Practice makes perfect, as they say. I also want to use Twitter more often, mostly to chat with you guys, because I love interacting with othe bloggers on there.

10. Read!

My official goal is to read 50 books this year, just like last year, but I actually hope I can surpass that. Either way, I just want to read lots and lots and have fun doing it!

And that’s it for my resolutions! Do you have any resolutions for 2016? Let me know!

  1. I should probably learn to do more baking/cooking, too… I’m pretty terrible at making food in general! Fortunately I don’t have to cook when I’m in college because my dining hall is great and I’m on a meal plan, but since I’ve been home for winter break I’ve realized that I really don’t know my way around a kitchen. 2016 is going to be the year I fix that! 🙂 Anyways, happy 2016!

    1. Ooh, a dining hall sounds great! We don’t have that in the Netherlands… Although that does mean I have to cook for myself, which is a useful skill, I guess! 🙂 Good luck with learnng to cook this year, and happy 2016 to you too!

  2. If I can give you one piece of advice, it’s don’t tell people you know how to make macarons once you master them – you’ll have every second person requesting them for all sorts of things! They are super time consuming BUT worth it. I love them 🙂 I found Pierre Herme’s book “Macarons” super helpful when I first starting making them – https://www.bookdepository.com/Macarons-Pierre-Herme/9781908117236 – there are some great step-by-step instructions with photos in the front. The flavours (like truffle) are a bit extravagant, but the pictures are so beautiful.
And I hear you on the “take notes while reading” thing. I always get to the end of books and can’t think of things to write – I always mark things of interest while reading (highlight in e-books, post-it flags in physical copies) so that’s always handy to jog my memory.

Anyway, good luck with all your resolutions – especially the macaron making!

    1. Haha, thanks for that advice, Heather! I’ll be sure to keep it to myself. 😉 That looks like a really cool book! I’ll keep it in mind for next time, although I did find a recipe that seems to be really good. Thank you for your lovely comments, and a happy new year to you! I hope it involves lots of macarons 😉

    1. Yep, it is! I’ve got a good memory, but I find it hard to formulate it into coherent thoughts, haha. 🙂 Thank you! Good luck with blogging to you, I hope you have a great year!

    1. Thanks, Cathy! Yes, I’m pretty sure you do follow me (I follow you, in any case 🙂 ). Good luck with that resolution! I’m already doing better than last year. 😀
