August was a very good month for the blog! I posted pretty consistently (apart from last week) and I’ve been very happy with my content, too. Plus, I finally redid the entire recipe index, and it looks so much more slick and sophisticated now! I also think it’s a lot easier to browse this way. I didn’t read quite as much as I would’ve liked, but I’m fine with that. I had a good month, and that’s what it’s all about.
And now it’s September and my three-month vacation has come to an end – which leads me to my announcement. I started my internship at a publisher’s for school books (among other things) last week Thursday, which means I’ll be doing the whole nine to five
(what a way to make a living) thing for four days a week for the next five months. I’ll also be doing a university course on the side, meaning I suspect I’ll be pretty busy. That’s why I’ve decided to temporarily scale back on the blogposts. I’m going to aim at putting out a blogpost once a week, which I think should be manageable, but we’ll see. I just don’t want to make things too hard on myself and since I get stressed easily, I figured a preemptive measure such as this would be the best thing to do. It’s a bit of a bummer that I won’t have that much time for blogging anymore, but I am actually really looking forward to this internship – it looks like it’s going to be really interesting!
Anyway, enough of that! Let’s get to the recap…
July was a fun month! My three month vacation is still going strong and I’m loving every minute of it. I spent a few days at one of my friends’ parents’ house with a couple of other friends and just got back from a short holiday to Belgium with my father yesterday. We went to see David Gilmour (from Pink Floyd) live which was amazing. Wish You Were Here is in my top 3 favourite songs of all time and when he started playing the intro I nearly cried. So, yeah – it was good!
I also did loads of reading and participated in BookTube-A-Thon which was so much fun and really productive too: I finished 5 books – two of which I’d been “reading” for months. The bookstagram challenges they did also gave me a good way to get back into Instagram and I posted a few pictures I’m really happy with.
So, what else happened this month? I mostly hung out with friends, read, and did some plotting and planning for the fantasy story I want to write. It was just a really good month overall with lots of happy memories.
And then today, the 31st of July, the birthdays of J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child came out. I wasn’t planning on buying it right away at all, because, honestly, I wasn’t really feeling it, but then I saw all the hype on Twitter and Instagram and I just got so excited!
I picked up a copy as soon as the bookstore opened at 12 and I’ve just finished reading Part 1 and guys – guys – IT’S SO GOOD. It has waaay exceeded my expectations and I’m going to fangirl A LOT (my review will probably come on Thursday) but first it’s time for this recap, because it was a pretty good month for the blog, too!
We’re over halfway through 2016! June was the first month of my summer vacation, and I spent it doing very little of anything (which was pretty great, mostly). I’m not really sure why, but lately I’m having trouble thinking of fun blog posts besides the usual reviews and recipes. Perhaps it’s because I’ve been working on my story idea and the blog has become less of a priority? I don’t know, but I want to change it! Hopefully, in July I will have some more interesting posts for you.
But first, let’s recap what did happen on the blog in June!
It’s the first of June today! There’s not a lot to recap for the previous month, so this will be a very short post. Because of my dissertation stress, I took a hiatus of a little over two weeks, but now my dissertation is handed in and Books Baking and Blogging is back in business! If my dissertation is good enough (which I think it will be, but you never know) I now have a 3 month vacation, so lots of time to blog and read. After that, I’m going to do an internship at a publisher of school books, which I’m looking forward to already. But for now I’m going to take my time to relax after that whole dissertation extravaganza, because man, that was exhausting!
Now, let’s recap!
It’s May! It doesn’t feel like it though. April’s been pretty cold – we’ve actually had snow up here a couple of times! I’m confident that will get better this month, though. As you’re reading this I am on holiday in France, which I expect will be just what I need. I’ll continue writing my dissertation, so it’s not all fun and games, but we’ll be only a few meters away from the beach, and the beach is my happy place, so I can’t wait! I won’t have any internet, though, so this’ll be the only thing you’ll here from me for a little while.
May’s going to be a busy month – I’ll be finishing my dissertation (although I’m not all that confident about that actually happening in time…) which will be taking up the majority of my time. I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to post, but I’m going to do my best and I’ll definitely be updating Twitter, so you can follow me on there, if you like (/shameless self promotion).
Anyway, on with the recap!
Aaand another month gone! I never really know how to start these posts, to be honest. Every month it’s “oh my, how fast it’s gone” and, I mean, it’s true, but it’s also getting kinda boring, isn’t it? And actually, I don’t think this month has gone particularly fast. It’s gone at a pretty average speed for me. It’s been fun, though! I’ve start writing my thesis this week, instead of doing research and reading and all that stuff. It’s been nice to finally get some of my ideas onto paper (or, well, word processor). I’ve still got a long way to go, but it’s a start!
Also, at the end of next month, I’ll be moving into a new apartment! I went to view it yesterday, and accepted it as soon as I got home. It’s not very big, but perfect for me and I’m really excited about it! I can’t wait to start with all the painting and decorating stuff. Good times, good times!
Anyway, that’s pretty much what’s new with me, so let’s get to the recap!
It’s March! That means it’s almost Spring time and I couldn’t be happier about that. I’m done with the cold and the leafless trees and flowerless gardens. Gimme that sun! February was pretty dreary, but it was a good month nonetheless. I made quite some progress with my MA dissertation, which is basically all I’m working on these days. I had some trouble keeping up with the blog because of that, but I intend to do better in March!
Yikes, January is over already! I kind of forgot about February this week… It wasn’t until yesterday that I realised that it had already started. Whoops! Oh well, time’s an illusion anyway, but let’s not get into that right now. January was a fun but busy month! It marked the end of the first semester, so I had deadlines and an exam and those kinds of things. I’ve passed all my courses quite beautifully, though, so I’m a happy camper! Next up: my Master’s thesis – quite daunting, but exciting as well.
As for the blog, I think I’m going to think of a new posting schedule, because I’m having trouble with the whole Thursday and Sunday thing. I’m thinking about instating one day or afternoon for blogpost writing, so I have something to put up every week. Also, I want to read more! Since I’m busy with the research for my dissertation, I don’t have a lot of time for casual reading, so that sucks… Hopefully I’ll get around to all those thing in February!
Yikes, the end of the year is nearing already! It’s gotten really cold and winter-y here, which means lots of tea, cosy jumpers and blankets. I’m looking forward to Christmas, but I kind of can’t believe we’re almost done with 2015… I know, I know, it’s a cliché, but really, what’s up with time going by this fast? It feels like it was just a month ago that I was whining about how damn hot it was outside, and here I am complaining about the cold every single day.
Anyway. November was quite a busy month for me, but it was also a fun one, as they all seem to be lately, which is a good thing, I guess! I hope to get a bit more reading done in December, because I still have five books to go for my Goodreads challenge, and gosh-flippity-darnit, I’m going to win that thing if it’s that last thing I do (or something a bit less dramatic). For now, though, here’s what I got up to on the blog in November!
And that was October! It’s been a busy month, starting with my birthday and ending with the first two weeks of midterms. I think that’s the reason that I only read two books this month, the second of which I finished yesterday evening. Technically, I finished reading Cress in October as well, but I also included it in my Monthly Recap of September, so that would be cheating…
I also had a bit of a blogging slump this month. I didn’t really feel like writing a post after I’d had a busy day, or even if I had a bit of a more quiet day. I’d just rather read or watch Netflix than write or read blogs. But that’s over now! I’ve got plenty of motivation again, probably because of my blogiversary this past week. It does mean that there weren’t that many blog posts this month, though: only one recipe and two reviews. So this’ll be quite a quick recap!
