This will be a sticky post until Sunday, January 11th. Regular posting will continue as usual.
As I announced in a previous post in December, I’ll be participating in my first ever read-a-thon this week: Bout of Books! I’m very excited about it, and it seems like a great way to start off the new year (and my Goodreads reading challenge…).
I’ll be updating this post throughout the week with my reading progress, but if you want live updates, follow me on twitter (@bookbakeblog).
Goals
It’s not mandatory to come up with any goals, but I thought of a few for myself anyway:
Read as much as possible (3 books?) I don’t want to set an exact number of books for myself, but I think reading 3 books this week should be doable (that includes finishing the one I’ve already been reading).
Chat with people on Twitter One of my blogging resolutions is to be more active on Twitter, and joining the fun in the #boutofbooks hashtag seems like a great way to start!
Participate in some of the challenges There are book related challenges everyday, and I want to participate in at least 2!
Have fun! That’s the main thing, really! I’m doing this for fun.
Monday
- Number of books read: 1
- Currently reading: We Were Liars by E. Lockhart.
- Finished reading today: Love Hurts by Malorie Blackman
- Challenges participated in: Bookshelf Scavenger Hunt [my entry]
Tuesday
- Number of books read (total): 2
- Currently reading: will be starting Invisble Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk tomorrow
- Finished reading today: We Were Liars by E. Lockhart (THIS BOOK, YOU GUYS)
- Notes: I’m having loads of fun with this read-a-thon, and I’m reading much more than I thought I would. Or maybe We Were Liars was just TOO GOOD to stop reading. Prepare for a fangirl-y review!
Wednesday
- Number of books read (total): 2
- Currently reading: Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk
- Notes: Not much progress today, but I expected as much. After two days of nearly constant reading, I needed a mellow reading day! Tomorrow, though, I hope to finish Invisible Monsters and start book number four.
Thursday
- Number of books read (total): 2
- Currently reading: Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk
- Notes: Had quite a few distractions again today, but I did make some progress! Only 40 more pages left for Invisible Monsters. I’m very much enjoying it, too. I hope to read at least one more book this weekend, when I’ll probably have some more time again.
Friday
- Number of books read (total): 3
- Currently reading: I’ll be starting Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell in the morning!
- Finished reading today: Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk
- Notes: Invisible Monsters was amazing! I’m very excited to start reading Fangirl now too, though. Still having tons of fun, even though I didn’t read all that much these past few days. I hope to be able to finish Fangirl by the end of the read-a-thon.
Saturday
- Number of books read (total): 3
- Currently reading: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
- Challenges participated in: Literary Quote Challenge [my entry]
- Notes: I’m loving Fangirl! I’m almost at the halfway point and really hope to finish it tomorrow.
Sunday
- Number of books reads (total): 3
- Currently reading: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
- Notes: I was hoping to finish Fangirl, but suspected I might not manage to do so. Doesn’t matter, though, because I’m loving this book and I had so much fun during Bout of Books! Will definitely participate again.
I do make an effort to get around to different blogs, but honestly I do most of my Bout of Books socializing on Twitter. It’s just so convenient, and usually leads to more conversation than blog comments do. Good luck!
I just found that out during the Twitter chat! It really is convenient, and I’ll definitely be using it a lot this week 🙂 Thank you very much and good luck to you too!
Good luck! I’m looking forward to reading your updates. 🙂
Thanks, Emmie! I’m already enjoying this read-a-thon so much. 😀
You’re doing brilliantly already! I also really needs to start talking to people on twitter more. I love the bout of books twitter chats – but I always seem to be working! Ooh, how was Love Hurts? I’ve been eyeing up that one. I hope you enjoy We Were Liars – it’s such a beautiful story.
Good luck!
Thanks! I love all of the interaction via Twitter, it makes it all even more fun.
Love Hurts was a bit disappointing… While it included some really wonderful original stories, most of them were simply excerpts from other books. For those, the lack of context was usually really confusing. At times it felt more like marketing trick to get you to buy the books, to be honest!
I’m almost halfway through We Were Liars now and enjoying it immensely!
Thank you, good luck to you too! 🙂
Ooh, I hope you liked We Were Liars! Great progress! 🙂
Kim @ Divergent Gryffindor
I loved it! Absolutely amazing, and that ending, wow… I finally know what everyone was talking about. Thank you! 🙂
We Were Liars is on my reading list. Sound so great 🙂 Hope you like it 🙂 Looking forward to your review!
I really loved it! Pretty sure it’s going to be the book I’ll push everyone to read this year. 🙂
Yay you’re doing awesome so far! Keep it up and remember to have lots of fun this week 🙂
Thank you! 😀 I’m having loads of fun! Hopefully you are too. 🙂
Congrats on your progress so far – you’re doing great! The Twitter chats look like a lot of fun, but I haven’t been able to catch them (I’m in Germany right now, so the time differences are rough). I hope you enjoy them!
Thank you! I live in the Netherlands, so I get your problem 😉 I’ve been able to catch the first one, which was in the evening for me. It was a lot of fun!
2 books finished so far, that’s fantastic progress! I hope you’re enjoying Palahniuk; I’m yet to read any of his books but I’ve heard great things about him! Good luck with the rest of the readathon and I hope you have a wonderful day! 😀
Thanks! I loved Invisible Monsters, it had some amazing plot twists and really gave me a lot to think about. Thank you! Same to you! 🙂
You doing great, I love reading about your progress 🙂
Thanks Galit! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. 🙂
🙂
I started Fangirl this week. I’m on chapter 4 and loving it so far even though it’s not really my genre. Do you read contemporary or are you branching out this week like me?
Now that it’s almost over, how did you like your first read-a-thon experience? Looks like you’ve read some very interesting books. Finished 3 of them through Saturday — not bad at all. And, you’ve participated in a couple of challenges. Hope we’ll see you at Bout of Books 13 in May!
